These metabolites have beneficial and detrimental effects on host health. Metabolites have beneficial effects, such as controlling energy homeostasis, improving intestinal barrier function, regulating immunity, and exhibiting anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. However, high levels of some protein metabolites may reduce colonocyte lifespan, have procarcinogenic, genotoxic, and cytotoxic effects. The number of studies addressing protein metabolites and their health effects in the literature is quite limited. This review aims to comprehensively examine the health effects of these metabolites, which can be considered targets for health research due to their therapeutic potential. For this purpose, keywords were searched in databases using various combinations, and the information obtained was compiled. In conclusion, various studies have reported both beneficial and harmful effects of metabolites on health. However, more studies are needed to better understand the interaction of these metabolites with nutrients and their effects on various cells.
