    The effect of COVID-19 pandemic on life quality of dental professionals

    Introduction: The coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has become the most challenging issue for dental professionals all over the world. The majority of epidemiological reports focus on quality of life and health of general health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, it was aimed to assess the effects of the pandemic on dental professionals’ quality of life. Material and Method: After the vaccination of healthcare workers in Turkey during the COVID-19 pandemic, a descriptive cross-sectional study of 487 dental professionals was carried out by the researchers. Short Form-36 (SF-36) which is based on eight dimensions of health were used to assess dental professionals’ quality of life. The data was collected using an electronic questionnaire distributed online. The participants were asked to indicate their socio-demographic data, their practices regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and whether they had contracted the COVID-19 disease. Results: The quality of life of all participants was moderately disrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic with a mental health score of 51.32 (±20.66) and a physical health score of 72.9 (±16.73). Participants who had case tracing duty during the COVID-19 pandemic scored lower with 45.83 (±20.08) in mental health and 66.94 (±18.47) in physical health. Overall, COVID-19 pandemic has a serious impact on the quality of life and and this impact is more marked in dental professionals with fewer years of experience and those who had case tracing duty during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: The results confirm the need to pay attention to the health of dental professionals who had case tracing duty during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results also point out that dental professionals who are recent graduates and working in the public sector may be more likely to have well-being problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Evaluation of pediatric dentists’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding the use of lasers

    This study aims to evaluate pediatric dentists’ knowledge, attitudes, and clinical practices regarding the use of laser tech nology. Additionally, it seeks to identify educational needs to support the accurate and effective implementation of laser applications in pediatric dentistry. The study received ethical approval from the Non-Interventional Research Ethics Com mittee of ………….University. Data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed via email and social media. A total of 233 volunteer pediatric dentists participated in the survey, which included 26 questions across five sections: sociodemographic data, knowledge, attitudes, clinical practices regarding laser use in pediatric dentistry, and laser-related training. Participation was voluntary, and informed consent was obtained at the beginning of the survey. The results of the study showed that 85.8% of pediatric dentists were knowledgeable about the use of lasers in pediatric dentistry. How ever, this knowledge was not fully reflected in clinical practice. It was found that only 35.2% of pediatric dentists had performed laser-assisted procedures. Among these, the most frequently performed procedures were frenectomy (73.2%) and the exposure of unerupted teeth (64.6%). Knowledge and attitude scores were significantly higher among dentists aged 41–50 and those with more than 20 years of professional experience (p<0.05). 73.8% of the participants stated that laser education should be integrated into pediatric dentistry training programs.There are variations in pediatric dentists’ knowledge and clinical practices regarding the use of lasers. To ensure the safe and effective use of this technology, edu cational opportunities need to be improved.

    The impact of COVID-19 outbreak on the pediatric dentists and the pediatric dental practice across Turkey

    Objective: The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a significant impact on pediatric dentists and the clinical practice of pediatric dentistry. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic among pediatric dentists in Turkey by evaluating protective measures, attitudes, and perception levels regarding COVID-19, clinical protocols, and professional approaches of pediatric dental practitioners. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted on a sample of pediatric dentists in Turkey. The questionnaire consisted of 34 questions in five domains: personal data, health conditions, precautionary measures and working conditions, knowledge and self-perceived risk of infection, attitudes and perception, and COVID-19 pandemic impact on clinical practice. Results: A total of 221 pediatric dentists participated in the survey. 33.9% of the participants (n=75) perform non-emergency procedures during the pandemic. Almost half of the participants considered atraumatic restorative treatment option for teeth with dentin caries (n=120, 54.3%). Moreover, the participants reported that they would treat a traumatized tooth [a tooth with luxation (n=210, 95%)]. Conclusion: Pediatric dentists can limit their dental procedures to emergency treatments and select biological, noninvasive, or minimally invasive methods to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
