Evaluating the campus climate factors using an interval type-2 fuzzy ANP
(Yildiz Technical University, 2024) Nalbant, Kemal Gökhan; Özdemir, Şahika; Özdemir, Yavuz
University campuses, characterized by their urban amenities, socio-cultural atmosphere, and diverse user population, play a significant role as public places in small cities. The physical layout of campus locations influences our views toward schooling. The concept of an inclusive campus climate refers to how people and groups perceive and interact with the environment within the campus community. The campus atmosphere encompasses the variety of people, their unique experiences, and the interpersonal contact among them. The membership functions of type-1 (T1) fuzzy sets (FSs) are represented in two dimensions, whereas the membership functions of type-2 (T2) FSs are represented in three dimensions. The introduction of this new third dimension allows for the direct modeling of uncertainties by pro viding more degrees of freedom. In addition, the membership value of T2 FSs is more adept at managing ambiguities. In this paper, an interval type-2 fuzzy analytic network process (IT2 FANP) is used to evaluate the weight of criteria decided by experts in the evaluation of campus climate factors with trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the campus climate factors using an IT2 FANP methodology. For this problem, the three main criteria and nine subcriteria were defined by experts. Therefore, the ranking of main criteria is “Physical Environment” > “Conceptual Environment” > “Administrative Environment”, and the ranking of subcriteria is found as “Social Environment” > “Exterior” > “Interior” > “Cultural Environment” > “Psychological Environment” > “Inclusive Goal and Perception” > “Economic Factors” > “Ac creditation” > “Legislation on Inclusive Design” by IT2 FANP methodology.

Identifying the factors affecting individual resistance against organizational change
(Ali Khorsandi Taskoh, 2023) Küçükatalay, Tuğba; Vardarlier, Pelin; Vayvay, Özalp; Özsürünç, Recep
This study aims to determine the factors affecting individual resistance. Literature review shows that job insecurity, emotional distress, and identity division are potential variables that will affect individual resistance. As a result of the factor and reliability analysis, the emotional distress scale consisted of 3 sub-factors: excitement, anxiety, and enthusiasm. Individual resistance, job insecurity, and identity fragmentation scales emerged as the only factors. As a result of simple and multiple regression analyses, it is seen that all independent variables significantly affect individual resistance. Job Insecurity has a significant and positive effect on individual resistance. It is seen that anxiety has a significant and negative effect on individual resistance, and enthusiasm has a significant and positive effect. The identity division has a significant and positive effect on individual resistance. Anxiety and enthusiasm variables, which are the sub-dimensions of emotional distress, are the variables that most affect individual resistance. In order to encounter less resistance and problems in the change process, employees need to be trained and prepared for a change in advance. Organizational change can only be achieved with the participation and support of employees. The study concludes with recommendations for managers at the strategy, operations, and human resources management levels.

Selecting an alternative concrete batching plant location using IT2 fuzzy anp methodology
(2022) Nalbant, Kemal Gökhan; Özdemir, Şahika; Özdemir, Yavuz
Ready-Mixed Concrete started to be used after the 1970s, and its importance has gradually increased in recent years. The rapid development of the construction industry in our country in recent years has contributed to the rapid development of Ready-Mixed Concrete plants. Because of this reason, in this study, the concrete plant's location is determined using the Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Analytic Network (IT2 FANP) methodology. As a result of this methodology, the ranking of the alternative concrete plant's location is found as Basaksehir, Ikitelli, and Bagcilar, respectively. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study in the literature that searches for an alternative concrete batching plant location using Interval Type-2 (IT2) Fuzzy Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques. The problem may be examined using various MCDM methodologies, and further solutions for selecting alternate concrete plant locations can be researched in the future. The value of this study is that it fills in a gap in the existing literature and serves as a foundation for future research in this sector.

A multi-criteria decision-making approach for greenovative supplier selection
(University of Cincinnati, 2022) Çaloğlu Büyükselçuk, Elif; Tozan, Hakan; Vayvay, Özalp
In today???s rapidly changing business environment, green and innovative (greenovative) activities have become indispensable elements of sustainable supply network management. Realization of this fact obliges firms to consider greenovative as well as traditional criteria in determining their supplier. This study provides a new greenovative systematic approach to supplier selection for small and medium-sized enterprises. Fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making (FMCDM)-based techniques were used to determine the most appropriate supplier with the proposed model. To show the usability of the model, an application was carried out on an automotive supply company. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) approaches were used to calculate the weights of the supplier selection criteria. After determining criteria weights, different multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques that are often encountered in the literature were used to identify the best supplier.

Gravitational intelligent decision-making model at the fuzzy front end with extrinsic idea integration by the K-Means algorithm
(MDPI, 2022) Kurt, Onur Emre; Vayvay, Özalp
If the dynamic fuzziness of the Front End (FE) part of New Product Development (NPD) cannot be treated in a timely manner, fuzziness accumulates over other parts of NPD hence NPD can result in costly mistakes. The authors tried to remedy this strategically critical problem by implementing mainstream theoretical/methodological approaches, but they found inherent weaknesses of each. The purpose of this study is to bring an objective and intelligent decision-making model to FE so as to lessen fuzziness of it. Model quantizes ideas based on pillars, and re-clusters them with every new idea addition thanks to combining non-mainstream approaches like K-means, distance-based algorithm with gravitational theory inspiration, an accumulation of idea and an exponential function. Study showed that fuzziness of FE can be lessened by quantizing, and objectively managing. The founded core reasons of fuzziness can guide practitioners and authors for better understanding and coping with fuzziness of FE; moreover, the model can be used by companies. Introducing an objective and intelligent decision-making model working like a human brain to FE is a unique idea that has not been tried ever before.

Extended Residential Heating System Selection Using Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Analytic Network Process with the Perspective of Energy
(Rasht, 2022) Özdemir, Şahika; Nalbant, Kemal Gökhan
The need for energy increases due to the increasing population and developing technology. The limited energy resources pose incredible difficulties in meeting this rising energy consumption. Heating systems have essential in people’s lives in terms of comfort. The design of the systems is critical for people to benefit from these systems under comfortable and economic conditions. In the previous papers, the alternatives of the residential heating system were evaluated using the generalized Choquet integral method with trapezoidal fuzzy numbers [1]. In this paper, the authors assess the alternatives for the residential heating system using an Interval Type-2 Fuzzy ANP methodology. The membership value of Type-2 Fuzzy sets can minimize the effects of uncertainties and vagueness. These sets make it probable to model uncertainties directly. The originality of the study comes from the first-time usage of IT2 FANP methodology in prioritizing the alternatives of residential heating systems. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first paper in the literature that uses IT2 FANP methodology in this field. The IT2 FANP methodology and the generalized Choquet integral methodology are compared in this study. Therefore, the ranking of alternatives is found as A4 (Radiator Heating Systems) > A3 (Fan Coil Heating Systems) > A1 (Unvented Fuel-Fired Heaters) in both methods. But the first and the second system alternative ranking are displaced as A2 (HVAC Systems)>A5 (Floor Heating Systems) in IT2 FANP methodology, whereas A5 (Floor Heating Systems) > A2 (HVAC Systems) in the generalized Choquet integral methodology with close weights.

A novel fuzzy framework for technology selection of sustainable wastewater treatment plants based on TODIM methodology in developing urban areas
(Nature Research, 2022) Eseoğlu, Güneş; Yapsaklı, Kozet; Tozan, Hakan; Vayvay, Özalp
Optimal technology selection of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) necessitates the adoption of data-driven scientific approaches that satisfy the sustainability requirements of the urban ecosystem. Such approaches should be able to provide actionable insights to decision makers constrained by factors such as population growth, land scarcity, and loss of functionality of wastewater treatment plants. The framework in this study proposes a hybrid fuzzy multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) model consisting of the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and the TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese of interactive and multi-criteria decision-making) by using alpha cut series which takes into account the risk aversion of decision makers (DMs) to overcome uncertainties of environmental conditions. The literature to date indicates that the study is the first to presents how a systematic decision-making process is approached by interpreting the interaction of criteria for the selection of wastewater treatment technology through the membership function of Prospect Theory. The proposed methodology reveals that the prominent reference criterion manipulates other sub-criteria according to the function of risk-aversion behavior. The fuzzy sets based on alpha cut series are employed to evaluate both the criteria weight and the rank of the alternatives in the decision-making process to obtain compromise solutions under uncertainty. The dominance degrees of the alternatives are achieved by fuzzy TODIM integrated with the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) which deals with the uncertainty of human judgements. According to the ranking results determined by the dominance degree of alternatives, anaerobic-anoxic-oxic (A2O) without pre-clarification was the most effective process in relation to the sludge disposal cost (C25) calculated as reference criteria. The ranking of four full-scale WWTPs in a metropolitan city of an EMEA country based on 24 sub-criteria listed under the four main criteria, namely the dimensions of sustainability, is used as a case study to verify the usefulness of the fuzzy approach. Motivated by the literature gap related to the failure to consider the psychological behavior of DMs in technology selection problem for wastewater treatment, it is discussed how the proposed hybrid MCDM model can be utilized by reflecting human risk perception in wastewater treatment technology selection for developing urban areas.

(Pearl Publication, 2021) Özdemir, Şahika; Nalbant, Kemal Gökhan; Özdemir, Yavuz
The widespread use of computer technologies in engineering and architecture provides essential contributions to engineers and architects in solving design problems. The computational design approach, which emerged depending on computer science and design theories and software and hardware technologies, is reflected in today's engineering and architectural works. In this study, store plan alternatives were prioritized by the Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Analytic Network (IT2 FANP) methodology, and the best alternative of store plans was selected. In addition, the results obtained for the four methods were compared. Type-2 Fuzzy Set can reduce the effects of vagueness and uncertainties. These sets make it probable to model uncertainties directly. There are very few studies on the IT2 FANP method for architectural design area in the literature. Our aim is to contribute to the literature by increasing the studies in this field.

Fuzzy multi-objective evaluation of tourism investments in Turkey

Mathematical model structures of supply chain optimisation studies and an innovative approach proposal
(Inderscience Publishers, 2021) Yıldırım, Mustafa; Yenisey, Mehmet Mutlu
Supply chain optimisation has been the subject of many scientific studies due to its mathematical structure. In this study, some optimisation studies that consider the components of the supply chain for modelling and to help to make decisions for supply chain management problems are examined. These studies in the literature have been classified in terms of mathematical model structures. Optimisation of supply chain problems and complexity of problems are mentioned. For the optimisation of the supply chain, a new innovative approach has been proposed by using the succession relationship between the components of the supply chain. In accordance with the proposed approach, a solution method has been described and its results are shown on a sample problem. It is aimed that the proposed method will bring a new approach suitable for solving complex problems, especially supply chain optimisation problems, and contribute to finding better solutions. Development opportunities are evaluated by examining the results.
