Özet
The prostate, an essential male reproductive gland, produces and secretes components of seminal fluid and plays a crucial role in male reproductive health. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is an age-associated condition marked by non-cancerous enlargement of this gland, increasingly prevalent among older men. More than 40% of men aged 50–60 and over 70% of those aged 61–70 are affected, with incidence reaching up to 90% by the ninth decade (1-8). Histologically, BPH involves the proliferation of epithelial and smooth muscle cells in the prostatic transition zone, leading to bladder outlet obstruction and associated lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), such as urgency, nocturia, and a weakened urine stream (9, 10). Although not life-threatening, BPH significantly impacts the quality of life and can lead to complications like urinary retention and renal issues (11). The condition’s high prevalence and its substantial impact on men’s health have made it a significant focus of medical research and therapeutic development.
