Preparation and in vitro characterisation of nanofibers for enhancing the water solubility of poorly soluble drugs
(İstanbul University Press, 2025) Karamürsel, Elif; Uzel, Egemen; Aydilek, Neriman; Durgun, Meltem Ezgi; Özsoy, Yıldız
Background and Aims: As the drug discoveries of the modern century have led to a rapid increase in the number of new drug candidates with low water solubility, nanofiber drug delivery systems have become a promising technology to increase the water solubility of drugs with a high surface-to-volume ratio. In this study, we aimed to prepare a nanofiber of a molecule with low water solubility and investigate its changing solubility properties. Methods: Three nanofiber dosage forms containing olanzapine (OLZ) active substance were developed by the electrospinning method using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer. Drug loading efficiency, zeta potential determination, electrical conductivity, rheology, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses were performed to evaluate the in vitro characterisation of the formulations. The solubility profile of the optimised formulations in pH 7.4 phosphate buffer was evaluated. The stability of optimised formulations was evaluated in terms of physical properties (colour, shape, weight, diameter, and thickness) and drug amount for 35 days. Results: It was determined that the electrospinning property of the nanofiber preparation solution increased with the addition of ethanol to the polymer solvent medium. The active substance distribution in the nanofiber layer was more homogeneous in the N78 and N79 coded formulations with high zeta potential values compared to N69. Contrary to the homogeneous distribution problem, the loading efficiency of the N69-coded formulation containing chloroform (~29%) was higher than that of N79 (~9.8%). A 24-h solubility study in pH 7.4 phosphate buffer of the N78-coded formulation, which has an active ingredient loading efficiency of ~80.4%, confirmed the increased solubility of OLZ in water in the nanofiber drug delivery system. Conclusion: Further studies are needed to convert these model formulations into final drug products.
Logistics operations management in the industry 4.0 era: A case study for transition of an automotive company′s operations to fourth-party logistics structure
(Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, 2025) Döner, Hülya; Vayvay, Özalp; Vardarlıer, Pelin; Kalender, Zeynep Tuğçe
In recent years, the understanding of minimum inventory and customer satisfaction in the flow of goods and services from manufacturers to end-users is of great importance among the factors that make businesses more interested in outsourcing logistics activities. Additionally, technological transformation and customer requests for complicated technology and services caused the appearance of new circumstances, which is progressively altering the industry. In this regard, choosing, managing and coordinating between multiple vendors become very difficult and time consuming so, companies outsource more functions while supply chain operations getting more complex. Companies generally preferred 3PL providers for their logistics functions including packaging design and management of company-owned assets. On the other hand, with technological transformation in logistic sector, businesses are looking to outsource 4PL more than ever. 4PL system transitions are difficult processes since it requires comprehensive system integration and should be well understood by the company′s supply chain team. Today, although the importance of 4PL systems is more understood and this structure is becoming more widespread, many companies still face similar adaptation problems. From this point of view, it is believed that this study creates important insights into the business world. In this study, the transition process of an automotive company is examined which successfully completed after a 5-month project period. As a detailed case study, the Transportation Management Module (TTM) is selected since the whole transition process was very comprehensive and included many dimensions. Study revealed that adaptation of the new system, developed by the partnership of the automotive company and 4PL company, provided several benefits. In this sense, with the transition of Transportation Management (TM), TTM is reduced by 2 days, almost 10% savings are reported in the whole company and only in the Turkey branch, 243311 € cost saving is achieved in the 1st year. The study proves that focusing on the core business via outsourcing supply chain activities not only increases efficiency in the selected automotive company but also increases supply chain quality as well.
Design, use, and contemporary technological approaches of mouthguards in pediatric athletes
(Harran University, 2025) Kaplan, Ceren; Yoğurucu Değerli, Gizem
Orofacial trauma is a common concern among pediatric athletes, particularly those participating in contact and high impact sports. Due to their developing dentofacial structures, children are more vulnerable to injuries. Mouthguards are intraoral devices designed to absorb and disperse impact forces, playing a critical role in injury prevention. This review outlines the classification of mouthguards, fabrication techniques, and the process of personalized design. It also examines usage trends in children and highlights how awareness among parents and coaches influences adherence. Recent advancements in digital dentistry—especially CAD/CAM systems and 3D printing technologies—have enabled the production of custom-made mouthguards that provide superior fit, comfort, and protection. Studies suggest that individualized mouthguards improve compliance among pediatric athletes and significantly reduce the risk of orofacial trauma. Therefore, technological innovations, combined with increased stakeholder awareness, are believed to enhance the adoption and clinical success of effective protective mouthguards in pediatric sports dentistry.
Are informations of subperiosteal implant procedure on youtube really useful?
(Udruženje stomatologa Balkana, 2025) Özdal Zincir, Özge; Zincir, Ali; Özdal, Umut
Background/Aim: Subperiosteal implant is a type of implant preferred in oral implantology in cases with severe bone deficiency where intraosseous implant application cannot be performed. We evaluated the accuracy of the information by examining YouTube videos containing information on this subject. Material and Methods: In the YouTube video search conducted with the keywords ‘Subperiosteal dental implant’, the first 200 videos were watched and evaluated. 118 videos that didn’t meet the analysis criteria were excluded from evaluation and the remaining 82 videos were analyzed. The usefulness scores of all analyzed videos were determined as ‘poor’, ‘moderate’ and ‘excellent’ according to their information content. For statistical analysis, the Kruskal Wallis and Phi tests were used and the significance coefficient was determined as p<0.05. Results: According to the information content of the videos, the usefulness scores were numbered as poor(0), moderate(1), excellent(2) and the average was found to be 0.51. When the usefulness scores of the videos and their demographic information were compared, it was found that there was a significant difference between the video duration (p=0.002), the number of views (p=0.006) and the number of likes (p=0.003). There is a significant difference between the viewing rate of the videos (p=0.044) according to their usefulness scores. It can be stated that video types differ depending on the target audience (p=0.003). Conclusions: Among the YouTube videos examined, those uploaded by health professionals and health companies have a high educational quality and a high viewing rate. However, the number of such videos aimed at informing patients should be increased.Key words: Dental implant, subperiosteal implant, dental prosthesis, social media.
An examination of the relationship between perceived parental attitudes and test anxiety among 8th grade students
(Recep Kanat, 2025) Noyan, Reyhan; Keçeci, Berra
This study aimed to examine the relationship between perceived parenting styles and test anxiety levels among 8th grade students. The research was designed within the framework of the relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, and the sample consisted of 318 students studying in 10 public secondary schools in Eyüpsultan district of Istanbul during the 2024–2025 academic year. Data were collected through the Parental Consent Form, Demographic Information Form, Parental Attitude Scale (PAS), and Westside Test Anxiety Scale (WTAS). The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0, and independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression tests were conducted. The results revealed that female students experienced significantly higher levels of test anxiety compared to male students. Correlation analysis showed significant negative relationships between test anxiety and the dimensions of acceptance-interest and psychological autonomy. Multiple regression analysis indicated that only the psychological autonomy dimension was a significant predictor of test anxiety. No significant differences were found in test anxiety levels according to different types of 3 parental attitudes. These findings demonstrate that students’ test anxiety is significantly associated with the psychological autonomy and acceptance they perceive from their parents. The results are consistent with previous studies in the literature, showing that democratic parenting styles and psychologically supportive approaches have a reducing effect on test anxiety. In this regard, the study contributes to the understanding of psychosocial factors influencing test anxiety. Based on the findings, it can be suggested that strengthening guidance and counseling services, expanding parental awareness programs, and encouraging teachers to collaborate with families are crucial steps in reducing students’ test anxiety. Furthermore, parents adopting approaches that provide greater psychological autonomy and acceptance may help students cope more effectively with test anxiety.
